“Supports” deals with the topic of support structures in the FDM printing process. Through the simulation and 3D printing of organic spatial structures, support structures have taken on a whole new meaning. Complicated geometries, long printing times and extended material consumption have led to the consideration of avoiding support structures altogether and finding out under which parameters unsupported printing can work. The outlook shows how new, reduced support structures could look like and how they integrate into existing geometries.
