Cicero – Claus Hahn, Benjamin Neubauer & Chenghan Yuan
Cicero is a pair of sunglasses whose frame is made of pre-used printing plates.
The glasses get their stability and their characteristic look from folds, crimps and beads. The motifs on the printing plates make each pair of glasses unique. The frame, with its specially developed joint at the temple, does not require any additional material or screws. We use construction methods that can also be found in classic tin toys. After use, the frame can be completely returned to the aluminium cycle.
To produce the frame, the individual parts are first milled out and then shaped step by step using special embossing moulds. In order to be able to react to different glass shapes and sizes, the length of the embossing moulds can be changed. This is because the Cicero frame gets its shape from the lenses. The tinted lenses are sourced from eyewear retailers. Non-corrective lenses are usually left left over and are disposed. With Cicero they get another cycle of use.
