"Time floats by" - This object is intended to express a certain magical component that time carries within itself. Foucault's pendulum, which emerged during the design work, was the guiding principle. Although the structure has nothing directly to do with it, it was the analogy between the pendulum and time that became the focus of the design. Ultimately, it is a clock in which the actual time-displaying component is secondary. It consists of a horizontal clock face with side-mounted indices and a stand from which the wooden pendulum hangs. This pendulum contains a magnet which is deflected by a second magnet. This sits under the dial on a hand which moves, driven by a stepper motor. The pendulum is thus in a kind of standstill due to the permanent deflection, while time nevertheless passes and it makes its rounds across the dial. The object is primarily intended to communicate this enigmatic effect and invite interaction. This consists in the fact that the pendulum can be deflected by hand and is caught again by the magnetism after a few oscillations. It then continues on its way in peace and allows time to float by.
