Dear Makers! During the coming Wintersession we invited studio potter and digital artist Jonathan Keep (photo left) to build our own 3D printer together so we will be able to print more than plastics (we’re focusing on paste materials such as ceramics, cookie dough? toothpaste? …). The week after we will be taking a more scientific approach focused on the future of materials, in a pilot project titled “Exploring Future Materials” with Dr. Filipe Natalio (photo right) who recently gave an inspiring lecture on Biomimetics at the BURG.

Tyvek (watch video here)
Tyvek is a paper-like non woven fabric made of Polyethylene. It is used for buildings, lightweight installations, clothing, and much more. Tyvek can be printed, sewed, stitched, ironed, wrinkled, laser-cut, and more. What would you do with it? – Tyvek is freely available for all BURG students as long as our stock lasts.

Die Tagung „Die Politik der Maker“ möchte die Hintergründe der „Maker Culture“ in Vorträgen, moderierten Panels und Workshops ergründen. Es geht darum die neuen Möglichkeiten des Produzierens von Design vorzustellen, theoretisch zu beschreiben und kritisch zu reflektieren. Wohin zielen die Ansätze? Sind die Diskussionen darüber Schattengefechte einer Totalisierung des Marktes? Ist D.I.Y. emanzipativ? Und überhaupt: Kann man die bessere Welt 3D drucken?
