Material Slam: Hacking Grcic, 19.02.2016 at the Grassimuseum
MAKE. invites you to an evening event at the Grassimuseum! In the context of the future focused exhibition “Konstantin Grcic – Panorama” we developed a special “Material Slam: Hacking Grcic” show together with the Grassimuseum. Selected designs will be re-thought, re-interpreted and re-made into something new. After a few rounds the audience will vote for the best results.
– Entry tickets: 5,50 € (for the exhibition and evening event)

Wintersession 2016 – Apply Now For Workshops
It’s that wonderful time of the year again! The Wintersession is coming up with a lot of exciting workshops.
Also MAKE. is offering two workshops including “Burg Material Scouts” on Tuesday 23.2.2016 (become part of our new materials collection), and “Schneiden, Biegen, Schweissen” (get some hands-on skills with Pavel Majrych) from 16 – 19.2.2016.

For these two workshops, please send an email to make(at)burg-halle.de with (1) your name (2) study course (3) which semester and (4) matriculation number. Deadline for registrations: Monday 25.2.2016. The Wintersession is open for all BURG students.
Material of the Month: Used Truck Tarps
Used truck tarps are too good to be wasted. This PVC-based material is made to last and can be transformed into almost anything by punching, sewing, cutting, weaving, heat-welding and more. MAKE. invites you to give this material a second life! Used tarp sheets are freely available for BURG students as long as our stock lasts. Supported by: FREITAG

Material of the Month is an ongoing project where MAKE. provides a selected material for student projects. The material is freely available for all BURG students as long as our stock lasts. The only condition for participation is to return a visual documentation, so we can share the ideas and experiments that have been done with the sponsored material.
Call for Participants: Science Hack Day
Wissenschaftler, Ingenieure, Entwickler und Designer aufgepasst! Vom 6. Bis 8.11.2015 findet der erste Science Hack Day in Halle Saale unter dem Motto „Halle.Neu.Stadt – Wege in die Zukunft“ statt. Als Raum für Ihre Ideen konnten wir die Werkstätten des Eigenbaukombinat e.V. gewinnen. Hier ist genügend Raum, Werkzeug und Material für alle Ideen – ganz egal, ob es eine App, eine Maschine, Kleidung, eine Hundehütte oder eine Kombination aus allem wird.
Der Science Hack Day ist eine 48h-rund-um-die-Uhr-Veranstaltung die jene zusammenbringen will, die Lust haben das Labor gegen die Werkstatt zu tauschen, die mit Wissenschaft experimentieren und in multidisziplinären Teams verrückte, alberne, bizarre oder auch ernstgemeinte Lösungen finden und dabei jede Menge Spaß haben. Erfahrungen aus der Wissenschaft oder beim Hacking sind nicht zwingend – wichtiger ist eine unstillbare Neugierde auf das, was da kommen mag. Kleine Teams ertüfteln in Kurzzeit prototypische Lösungen für bislang ungelöste Fragestellungen und bringen außergewöhnliche Ergebnisse zustande.
In einer kleinen Reihe von Lightning Talks werden Problemstellungen und Datasets angeboten; rund um die Frage „Halle-Neustadt – Zukunftsstadt: Was braucht´s?“

Der erste Science Hack Day in Halle (Saale) wird in Kooperation von science2media und der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg durchgeführt. Zu den Unterstützern gehören die Medienanstalt Sachsen-Anhalt (MSA), der Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk (MDR), die Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) sowie die Stadt Halle. Science2media ist eine Netzwerkinitiative von Halleschen Wissenschafts- und Medienakteuren und wird koordiniert vom Mitteldeutschen Multimediazentrum (MMZ) und science2public – Gesellschaft für Wissenschaftskommunikation e.V.
Herbstsession 2015: Department of Seaweed (Workshop)

Das Department of Seaweed (siehe Video) ist ein interdisziplinärer Forschungs-, Experimentier- und Produktionsraum zum Thema Seetang als Designmaterial. Die Designerin Julia Lohmann gründete das mobile, real und virtuell exitierende Department 2013 am Londoner Victoria & Albert Museum, um mit Wissenschaftlern, Design-, Handwerks- und Materialexperten das Potential der Meeresalge zu erforschen und nachhaltige Nutzungsvisionen zu entwickeln. Nun kommt das Department für einen zweitägigen Workshop nach Halle. Der Workshop wird organisiert von GROW Art/Science, ein Plattform für den Austausch zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft.

Burg Material Scouts
MAKE. lädt euch ein, Teil der Burg Materialsammlung zu werden. Während eines zweitägigen Workshops wird MAKE. euch das Konzept der Burg Materialsammlung vorstellen und die Rolle der Burg Material Scouts erklären. Der 1. Workshoptag ist ein interaktiver Informationstag und offen für alle Interessierten. Der 2. Workshoptag ist gedacht für diejenigen, die die ersten Material Scouts während des Wintersemesters sein wollen. Burg Material Scouts sind Freunde von MAKE. und haben Zugang zu / nehmen Teil an: Exkursionen/Workshops, Material of the Month, Materialdatenbank (u.a. www.materio.com), Publikationen, monatliches Materialtreffen organisiert von MAKE.

Zum Wintersemester 2015/2016 eröffnet die Burg Materialsammlung. Statt eines toten Archivs soll sie eine dynamische Sammlung von Studierenden für Studierende werden. Die neuen Burg Material Scouts sind eine repräsentative Gruppe Studierender aus allen Studiengängen, die mit MAKE. die Materialsammlung mitgestalten. – Was ist ein Materialsammlung? Wie sieht das Konzept der Burg Materialsammlung aus? Was haben wir vor?: Partizipatives Konzept. Was ist/macht ein Material Scout? Wie kann ich mich daran während des Semesters beteiligen? Was habe ich davon?

100% Paper Exhibition and Lectures at Designhaus Halle
If you share our opinion that paper is probably one of the most exiting materials to think, work and experiment with, then don’t miss the upcoming opening + lectures at the Designhaus which are all about… paper!
We invited Arjan van Raadshoven from Newspaperwood (The Netherlands) and Mikael Lindström from Innventia (Sweden), two amazing companies that rock the world of paper, to open the exhibition on 10.6.2015 with an inspiring lecture. Unique paper products, artworks and experiments from more than 20 BURG students and graduates will be exhibited from 11.6.2015 to 31.7.2015 at the Designhaus Halle. The 100% Paper exhibition is curated by Aart van Bezooijen (Professor for Material and Technology Transfer) and Bernhard Elsässer (Designer).
