How do we insert ourselves into the systems and networks that surround us? How can we hijack them from within, or better yet, how can we build entirely alternative versions? This workshop will explore the production of new formats for processing and sharing “content” (work, artwork, documentation, information, news) through physical, performative, and/or theoretical platforms for distribution.
Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff (*1988 in Minneapolis, *1987 in Buffalo, live and work in Berlin) work as artists, photographers, organizers, writers and directors. In their photographs, installations and plays, they develop narratives that address shifts in public and private spaces, personal and social scenes, and their underlying economies and logics. As both foil and complement to their work as photographers, Henkel and Pitegoff also work with large-scale collaboration with other artists taking the forms of performance, theater and the creation of social spaces, such as Times Bar (2011-12), New Theater (2013-15) or most recently the Grüner Salon at Volksbühne in Berlin (2017-18). Their work has been shown in solo exhibitions at the Kunstverein Hamburg (2018), Cabinet Gallery, London (2017), Witte de With, Rotterdam (2016), Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2016) and the Whitney Museum, New York (2015).
