Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle declares its solidarity with Ukraine. We strongly protest against the aggressive and violent form of Putin's Russian policy and call for an immediate end to the war. Various offers of help and support for refugees have been compiled by BURG.

Guest auditorship

  • For students from Ukraine, the BURG offers a free guest auditorship. Interested students from Ukraine studying in the field of art and design are asked to contact Teresa Falkenhagen directly at the Department of Student Affairs via , if they want to apply for a guest student status.
  • It is possible for guest students to take part in the entrance examination for the next semester on a regular basis or to be admitted to a higher study year on a regular basis via the examination board. However, there is no guarantee for admission.

Change of university

  • Students transferring from Ukraine can continue to submit their applications to the BURG, as previously regulated by the Bologna Agreement. These will be examined and treated with priority.

BURGwelcome

  • In response to the war in Ukraine and the numerous people fleeing these days, the BURGwelcome working group has been formed at BURG. Twice a month, the group would like to organize a welcome and cultural networking meeting for refugees. A shared meal and creative activities for children and adults are intended to create a protected space for exchange. The kick-off will take place on Friday, April 22, 2022, starting at 5 p.m., on the Neuwerk campus next to the library. The group is still looking for volunteers.

For questions about formalities for Ukrainian refugees, housing and problems in various life situations, a hotline of the city of Halle (Saale) is available from Monday, March 7, 2022: Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; phone: 0345 221-2580.

central reception center for refugees in the city of Halle has been set up at the "Kulturtreff" in Halle-Neustadt Am Stadion 6, 06122 Halle (Saale). Registration with the Foreigners' Registration Office and the application for social benefits take place there. The reception center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. A telephone hotline, Tel.: 2212580, will be available during the same period. The staff will provide advice on formalities, organizational issues and accommodation, for example, and arrange contacts with aid organizations, counseling centers and private initiatives in the context of the impact of the Ukraine war on the city of Halle (Saale).

Information and support services for researchers and innovators from Ukraine
The EU Commission wants to help researchers from Ukraine find housing and employment opportunities and facilitate the recognition of their university degrees. To this end, a portal for information and support services for researchers and innovators from Ukraine has been established: The European Research Area for Ukraine (ERA4Ukraine) portal.

BURG supports the offers of the Freiwilligen-Agentur Halle to provide coordinated help to the people in the war zone and those who have to flee. The volunteer agency has created an overview of offers of help for people, which we would like to share with you. There is a great need to host people in Germany who have left and will leave their homes. The city of Halle asks that people refrain from individually organized trips, as this may result in people arriving in Halle without secure housing. The city's offers of assistance are linked to an attempt at coordinated reception management and accommodation. Residents who want to take in people from Ukraine can register their offer at the contact point of AWO SPI:

Refugee Law Clinic
The Refugee Law Clinic currently offers regular workshops for lawyers who are still studying, which deal with the topic of migration law and legal foundations for refugees, currently specifically related to Ukraine. An overview of workshop dates and registration is possible here.

Vigil
The Halle Friedenskreis also organizes a vigil for peace Mondays through Fridays between 5.00 and 6.00 p.m. on the market square next to the Marktkirche in Halle (Saale).
