Julia Kröpelin assumed the professorship in Fundamentals of Visual Art/Drawing in the Art faculty in the summer semester 2017. An artist who was born in Göttingen in 1967, she studied at Braunschweig University of Art from 1990 to 1992 and at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf from 1992 to 1996. In 1994, she began as a so-called ‘Meisterschülerin’ (Master Student) under Prof. Fritz Schwegler and was a holder of a stipend from the ‘Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation)’. Since 1996, she has been working with various galleries, museums and exhibition institutes in Germany and abroad. In addition, Julia Kröpelin has developed and led numerous curatorial projects. Her works have been shown at solo exhibitions in Vienna, Essen, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt am Main, and at group exhibitions in the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen, the ‘Kunsthalle Recklinghausen’ and the ‘Kunstverein Kassel’. She has also been awarded various art awards and stipends.
Between 2006 and 2016, she held numerous teaching appointments and led workshops an various art schools and universities. For example, she worked at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf between 2006 and 2008, at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel in 2009 and 2015, and at HBKsaar in Saarbrücken. Julia Kröpelin already acted as a substitute professor in Fundamentals of Visual Art/Drawing at the BURG for the winter semester 2016/17.
